My Story

When I became pregnant with my first daughter, I was elated. All I ever wanted was to be a mother. I did not know much about pregnancy or the process of birth, but I was looking forward to the journey nonetheless. My husband I chose to see a Ob/Gyn practice near our home shortly after finding out. We left that appointment feeling really disappointed, uninformed and unsupported. I read about a friend's home birth experience with a midwife and quickly began learning all there was to know about natural birth and midwifery care. It completely blew my mind and heart wide open to learn about the practices of childbirth in the US and the statistical outcomes for women and their babies. We soon agreed exploring an out-of-hospital experience would be best for us. My husband and I left the consultation after meeting our midwives feeling extremely comfortable, respected and informed: we knew right away these women were who we wanted with us as we welcomed our baby.

The pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience under the care of our midwives equipped us with so much knowledge and prepared us for the joys and challenges ahead. Our lives were forever changed when I birthed our beautiful baby girl in the comfort and safety of our bedroom, surrounded by love and expertise. This sparked a passion for women's health that I could not shake. For the following 2 years I served women and families as a doula mainly in the hospital, before beginning my training as a midwife's assistant and apprentice in 2018 after welcoming a second daughter at home. I continued to train with home birth midwives in my community until I graduated from my Direct Entry Midwifery program in 2023. Shortly after I passed my board exam to become a NARM Certified Professional Midwife, an expert in normal pregnancy and out-of-hospital birth. At the time of graduation, I had attended more than 150 births in total, in the capacity of doula, assistant, and student midwife.

Additional Certifications/Trainings:

  • CPR/BLS Adult and Child Certified

  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) Certified

  • Birth Emergency Skills Training by B.E.S.T.

  • Reteach Breech by Dr. Stu

  • Various in-person trainings and conferences for continuing education credits are attended annually, such as Twins & Breech Expert Conference by Born Free Method, "Stuck" on Dystocia, In's & Out's of Venipuncture -IV Certification, Suturing in Real Midwifery Practice, and others

Making an impact in maternal and infant health, as well as expanding birth choices within Indiana is a strong passion. This led me to form the nonprofit organization, Indiana Birth Coalition, in aim to raise awareness of the impact and need for midwifery care and expanding access to out-of-hospital birth choices for women. I also serve on the Board of the Indiana Midwives Association as the Secretary and take pride in being involved in my community.

Prior to working with birthing families, I spent 12 years in early childhood education, providing care to infants and toddlers in various settings to support parents as they worked and grew their families. For five of these years, I offered a nature-based, child-led program in my community, and still treasure many positive relationships from this time. I am a proud mother to two amazing daughters and a wife to my best friend of 14 years. We also share our home with our pets, 2 cats and 2 dogs. As a family we love music, being outdoors, and spending time with friends and family. We value natural living and do our best to support our bodies holistically with non-allopathic medicine as we believe in maintaining good health to avoid illness. We are a homeschooling family that strives to always have fun and love the people around us!
